Our Roots

Central Baptist Church is a historic church in the heart of Charleston, South Carolina. Established June 18, 1891, the Central Baptist congregation completed their current sanctuary edifice in 1893. It is considered the first church in Charleston founded and constructed entirely by African-Americans. 

The mission of Central Baptist Church is to go make disciples of all men and to teach them to want what God wants: developing dynamic disciples through discipleship, discipline and duplication.
